The International Statistical Seismology (StatSei) conference is a well-established biennial meeting focusing on recent developments in statistical seismology. The meetings cover a series of topics pertaining to statistical descriptions of
earthquake occurrences,
rupture / failure processes, both in situ and in the lab,
heterogeneous tectonic environments (faults, fault zone structures) related to earthquake processes.
The ultimate goal of these approaches is to improve our understanding of the complex, unstable process leading to earthquake ruptures, exploiting statistical theory and models. A natural development is also to design forecasting models which allow constraining probabilities of earthquake occurrences.
This conference will attract 100 researchers for 5 days to present and discuss the very recent developments in the field. Two poster sessions and afternoon tutorials aimed at introducing in a practical way new methods and models will be organized, on top of lectures and talks. PhD students and young scientists are specifically welcome!

StatSei Conferences are usually held every two years, and are located in a different country every time. Not unlike the Olympic Games, the conference has been delayed by a year due to the sanitary crisis, and will travel from Japan (August 2019) to France (October 2022).
